TRIUMF Summer Institute (2020) - Quantum Computing and Machine Learning for Science and Technology Summer School

Canada/Pacific
Description

The upcoming TRIUMF Summer Institute (TSI 2020) on Quantum Computing and Machine Learning for Science and Technology, will be held at TRIUMF in Vancouver, BC, Canada from August 3rd to August 14th 2020. The school is organized by TRIUMF, Germany’s Helmholtz Association, Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Victoria.

The school is aimed at equipping graduate students in quantitative disciplines with applicable skills in machine learning and introducing them to the possibilities in quantum computing and quantum machine learning.

Students will experience an overview of gate model quantum computing, a survey of classical machine learning topics including deep learning, and explore what is being done in the early stages of quantum machine learning research. The students will also become familiar with alternative quantum computing models and modern approaches to quantum computing implementations. TSI 2020 emphasizes a hands-on approach, with large blocks of time dedicated to tutorials. The school will end with a two-day hackathon where students will showcase their knowledge applied to a practical problem.

Applications for TSI 2020 will be accepted from March 9 until April 19th. Successful applicants will be informed and invited to complete registration by April 24.

Please register on the TSI 2020 webpage.
