The TRIUMF Users Group (TUG) will meet for its Annual General Meeting on Friday July 14, 2017 in the main auditorium at TRIUMF.

The program will focus on the process TRIUMF will undertake to craft its upcoming 2020-2025 Five Year Plan. This includes reports from management, invited talks, discussion sessions, and a student poster competition.

The entire will be webcast for those users wishing to connect from off site.

Student Poster Competition

The Student Poster session will take place in two parts:

  1. "Poster Slam" session where each student gives a 2-3' presentation on the topic of their poster.  Students are allowed to show only one slide
  2. "Standard" poster session over the Lunch Break

The intent of these competitions is to encourage graduate students to present their research work and to interact with the TRIUMF user community at an early stage in their careers. Students should present the work and take primary responsibility for the content of the presentation as well as the written abstract. 

There will be cash prizes for the best talks as judged by a committee convened by TUEC
1st place: $500
Honourable Mentions: 2 x $250

Eligibility Criteria 

  • In order to be considered for this competition, the thesis or project has to have a connection to TRIUMF: the student should be either supervised or co-supervised by a TRIUMF user, or present results from a TRIUMF experiment. 
  • Undergraduate students working on projects that fulfill these criteria are also welcome to participate. 
  • Post-docs are also eligible if presenting their thesis topic and having defended their thesis no earlier than Nov 1, 2016.

How to Participate

 Students who wish to enter these competitions should provide:

  • an abstract  (PDF) to tug@triumf.ca with the subject header "TUG Best Student Poster Competition" 
  • Posters should be in 3' wide x 4' tall PORTRAIT format  (not landscape)

Abstract submission deadline is June 30, 2017
